Question about tiredness regarding type 1 diabetes?

by Diabetes Coach on June 26, 2009

My husband has type 1 diabetes and he's all of a sudden started getting extremely tired. He can't get enough sleep and feels the need to sleep through the day.
Does this mean anything bad? Does anyone have the same problems? Please help!

You should make sure he is checking he blood sugars regularly… high or low blood sugar can make you tired. If he is tired because he is getting sick, that will also effect blood sugars. Make sure he is checking them and that they are under control. Type 1 diabetes is no joke, your sugars need to be controlled or there will be a lot of side effects.

It may be possible that your husbands blood sugar is up. When my sugar is up as in the 250 to 300 and spilling ketones in my urine; I feel like I am very tired and want to do nothing but sleep. You might have to have him check his blood sugar, and if it is high, you may need to have him check his ketones too. If he is showing both a high blood sugar and spilling ketones into his urine also. You will prolly need to contact his doctor to directions on how to correct it.
